On August 10, 2019, on the feast of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God, memorial day of St. Pitirim, Bishop of Tambov (1698) and the sinaxys of Tambov Saints, His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh headed the Divine Liturgy in the Dormition Cathedral in the city of London.
His Grace was assisted by Priest Nikita Kozlov and Protodeacon Vadim Santsevitch.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Great Britain A.V. Yakovenko prayed at the service.
At the end of the Liturgy, Vladyka and the clergy sung glorification in front of the images of the Mother of God of Smolensk and St. Pitirim, after which Vladyka Matthew addressed the parishioners with a sermon, emphasizing that throughout his life, being a native of the city of Tambov, he was spiritually connected in his prayers with St. Pitirim, the great intercessor and wonderworker of the Tambov land.
