On August 28, 2026, the Feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of Our Lord and the Virgin Mary, Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, temporary Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the United States and Canada, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at St. Nicholas Cathedral in New York City.
The Archpastor was assisted by cathedral clergy, as well as Priest Rodion Shamazov, rector of St. George's Church in Bayside, New York City, and Deacon Andrei Malyshev, a cleric of that church.
A multitude of parishioners and guests of the parish prayed at the divine service.
During the Liturgy, Bishop Matthew ordained Igor Zayets, a subdeacon of the cathedral, to the rank of deacon.
After receiving Holy Communion, the Archpastor and concelebrating clergy performed a glorification of the feast before the Shroud of the Mother of God and, together with the congregation, sang the prayer "My Most Gracious Queen."
Following the divine service, Bishop Matthew addressed the congregation with a sermon and congratulated them on the feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God.
The Archpastor addressed the newly ordained Deacon Igor with a farewell message, wishing him God's all-powerful help and the intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God in his ministry. In memory of this day, Bishop Matthew presented Deacon Igor with a prosphora of the Mother of God and a service book.
The fellowship of the bishop, clergy, and parishioners continued over a fraternal meal prepared by the parish sisterhood.
