« An Orthodox Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the tomb of St. Frideswide, Abbess of Oxford »

On February 12, 2026, the feast of the Synaxis of the Ecumenical Teachers and Saints Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom, an Orthodox Divine Liturgy was celebrated at Christ Church Cathedral (Church of England) at the tomb of St. Frideswide (also spelled Frithuswith, Fritheswithe, Fritha, Fris), Abbess of Oxford (+735), patron saint of Oxford and Oxford University.

The service was celebrated by Archpriest Stephen Platt, Dean of the Central England Diocesan District and Rector of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker Church in Oxford.

Orthodox residents of Oxford and surrounding communities prayed and received Holy Communion at the service.

At the end of the Liturgy, Father Stephen addressed the pilgrims with a sermon.

Finally, all those present were able to venerate the tomb of St. Frideswide, where, according to tradition, her holy relics rest.
