On the 20th Sunday after Pentecost, Bishop Matthew of Sourozh celebrated the Divine Liturgy at Dormition Cathedral in London »

On October 26, the 20th Sunday after Pentecost, the feast day of the Holy Fathers of the Seventh Ecumenical Council and the feast of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh celebrated the Divine Liturgy at Dormition Cathedral in London.

His Grace was assisted by Archpriest Vitaly Polishchuk, Dean of the Diocesan District of South East England; Archpriest Dimitry Nedostupenko, Secretary of the Diocese of Sourozh; Archpriest Nikita Kozlov; Priest Vasily Gandzyuk; Priest Alexander Kapustin; and Protodeacon Vadim Santsevitch.

The liturgical hymns were performed by the Dormition Cathedral Choir under the direction of Dmitry Tugarinov.

Before the Liturgy, a reliquary containing great Christian relics - a particle of the Life-giving Cross of the Lord, the belt of the Most Holy Theotokos, and particles of the holy relics of chosen saints of God - was brought from the altar to the center of the church.

After the litany of fervent supplication, Bishop Matthew offered a prayer for the granting of peace.

Following the prayer behind the ambo, the Archpastor and concelebrating clergy performed a prayerful hymn before the newly painted church icon of Venerable Sergius, Abbot of Radonezh, a miracle worker of all Russia, after which Bishop Matthew consecrated the new icon.

At the conclusion of the service, Bishop Matthew addressed the clergy and parishioners with an archpastoral sermon. The bishop expressed gratitude to the cathedral's benefactor, Margarita Prokofieva, for her support in painting the cathedral's latest icon, and to Russian icon painters for their work in creating the new image, which will take its place today in one of the icon cases in the cathedral's interior.

Simultaneous translation into English was provided by Protodeacon Vadim Santsevitch.
