On July 30, 2023, on the 8th Sunday after Pentecost, the feast day of the Holy Fathers of the six Ecumenical Councils, His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Dormition Cathedral in London.
His Grace was assisted by Archpriest Maxim Nikolsky, Dean of the Diocesan District of South-East England Archpriest Vitaly Polishchuk, Secretary of the Diocese of Sourozh Archpriest Dimitry Nedostupenko, clergy of the UOC temporarily residing on the territory of the Diocese of Sourozh, Protodeacon Vadim Santsevitch and Deacon Viktor Nikiforov.
Liturgical hymns were performed by the choir of the Dormition Cathedral under the direction of Dmitry Tugarinov.
Before the beginning of the Liturgy, an ark with great Christian relics (a particle of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, the belt of the Most Holy Mother of God and particles of the holy relics of the chosen saints of God) was carried from the altar to the middle of the Cathedral.
After the augmented litany, His Grace Vladyka proclaimed a prayer for the granting of peace.
At the litany for the departed, the Archpastor offered up prayers for the cleric of the Diocese of Sourozh, Archpriest Raphael Armour, who died suddenly on July 25 at the age of 77.
Following the prayer beyond the ambo, Bishop Matthew and the concelebrating clergy served a litiya for the newly departed Archpriest Raphael and sung glorification to the Great Martyr Marina (Margarita) (IV).
At the end of the divine service, Vladyka Matthew addressed those gathered in the church on Sunday with words of sermon and spiritual edification. Simultaneous translation into English was provided by Protodeacon Vadim Santsevitch.
