« Archbishop Anthony of Vienna and Budapest appointed Patriarchal Exarch of Western Europe »

Participants in the meeting of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, held on May 30, 2019 in St. Petersburg, considered the appointment of bishops abroad (Journal No. 49).
It was decided to release Metropolitan John of Korsun and Western European from the administration of the Korsun diocese and parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate in Italy, as well as from the office of the Patriarchal Exarch of Western Europe.
The Synod decided to appoint Archbishop Anthony of Vienna and Budapest, as Korsun and Western European Patriarchal Exarch of Western Europe and temporarily Administrator of the parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate in Italy, freeing him from the administration of the Diocese of Vienna and Budapest and retaining him as Head of the Moscow Patriarchate Department in charge of the church institutions abroad.
The former Patriarchal Exarch of Western Europe, Metropolitan John, was appointed Administrator of the Vienna and Budapest Dioceses with the title "Metropolitan of Vienna and Budapest”.
