« Bishop Matthew of Sourozh visited Pokrovsky Orthodox Cemetery in Ottawa, Canada »

On September 5, 2018, on the day of the leave of the feast of Dormition of the Most-Holy Mother of God, His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh visited the Pokrovsky Orthodox cemetery in Ottawa, which is part of the town cemetery of Pinecrest.

At the Russian section of the cemetery, where many members of the clergy, nobility, officers and intellectuals, who emigrated to Canada, found their rest, Vladyka Matthew served panikhida for all deceased Orthodox Christians.

On this day, which is the 40th anniversary of  the passing away of the ever-memorable Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov), the Right Reverend Bishop Matthew raised his prayers for the repose of his soul. Metropolitan Nikodim, being the head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church, once played a key role in the negotiation process, which resolved the canonical status of the Metropolitan District in North America: the latter was granted Autocephaly by the Russian Orthodox Church, i.e. by the Patriarchal and the Synodal Tomos in 1970 , which established the Autocephalous Orthodox Church in America and Canada.
