« Archbishop of Canterbury was decorated with Russian Order of Friendship »

On Thursday 11 March, Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowen Williams was decorated with Russian Order of Friendship during the solemn ceremony in the Russian Embassy in London. Yuri Fedotov, Russian Ambassador in the UK, presented the Order to the leader of the Church of England.

Archbishop Elisey of Sourozh congratulated the Primate of the Church of England in the name of the Russian Orthodox Church and noticed that the decoration with the Russian Order will firm the spiritual ties between the British Christian tradition and Russian Orthodox culture that already connect the two countries.

Russian Ambassador Yuri Fedotov presented a bilingual edition of poems by Dr Rowen Williams to the Archbishop of Cantarbury, who is also known as a poet. The book «Headwaters» was edited in Moscow on the initiative of Ms Ekaterina Genieva, director of the All Russian State Library of Foreign Literature. Ms E. Genieva came to London to be able to present 200 issues of the book to the Archbishop in person.
