« An Orthodox pilgrimage to the tomb of St. John of Beverley (+721) »

On Saturday, May 16, 2026, with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, Orthodox believers of the Diocesan District of Northern England made a pilgrimage to Beverley to the resting place of St. John of Beverley (+721), marking the feast day of the saint of the undivided Church.

The Orthodox Divine Liturgy in the ancient monastery cathedral in Beverley, where the relics of St. John rest in the center of the church, was celebrated by Priest Anatoly Vikhrov, head of the Pilgrimage Department of the Diocese of Sourozh.

The liturgical hymns were performed by a combined choir of parishes from the Northern England Deanery, under the direction of Irina Mohammad, choirmaster of the Parish of the Presentation of the Lord in Bradford.

Following the dismissal of the Liturgy, a water blessing moleben was served at the resting place of St. John. The water for the blessing was taken from St. John's Spring, located under the floor of the cathedral's central altar.

At the conclusion of the service, Father Anatoly addressed the pilgrims present in the church from Hull, York, Manchester, Leeds, Bradford, and London, expressing his greetings and gratitude for their assistance in organising the pilgrimage. Young parishioners were presented with Easter gifts.

The fellowship continued over a fraternal meal in the parish building.
