« On the eve of the Sunday of the Publican and the Pharisee, Bishop Matthew of Sourozh celebrated the all-night vigil at Dormition Cathedral in London »

On the evening of January 31, 2026, on the eve of the Sunday of the Publican and the Pharisee, His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh celebrated the all-night vigil at Dormition Cathedral in London.

His Grace was assisted by Archpriest Vitaly Polischuk, Dean of the Diocesan District of South East England; Archpriest Nikita Kozlov; Priest Alexander Kapustin; Protodeacon Ioann Sylnik; and Deacon Nektariy Baska.

The Cathedral Choir, under the direction of Dmitry Tugarinov, performed the liturgical hymns.

At Matins, after the reading of Psalm 50, the choir sang the Lenten Triodion hymn "Open to Me the Doors of Repentance..."

The first sticheron, "Open to Me the Doors of Repentance," is based on the parable of the publican, drawing similes from it to depict the feeling of repentance. The second hymn, "On the Path of Salvation," is based on the parable of the Prodigal Son. The third, "The Many Evil Things I Have Deed," is based on the Saviour's prediction of the Last Judgment.

Following the reading of the Gospel, His Grace Vladyka anointed the clergy and worshippers with holy oil.
