« A moleben was held at the London Cathedral before the start of the new academic year »

On September 13, 2025, with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, after the Divine Liturgy, a "Moleben for the Beginning of the Education of the Youths" was held at the Dormition Cathedral in London.

The service was conducted by Priest Nikita Kozlov, assisted by Archpriest Maxim Nikolsky.

After the moleben, Archpriest Maxim Nikolsky, spiritual father of the parish school of the Holy Martyr Grand Duchess Elizabeth at the Dormition Cathedral, addressed the teachers, students and parents with a parting word and wished everyone God's help in the coming new academic year. Father Maxim and Father Nikita gave everyone a blessing for the upcoming studies and sprinkled those present with holy water.

Then the students and their parents went to the classrooms, where open lessons were held dedicated to the beginning of the school year, during which the students were able to share their impressions of the summer holidays.

The beginning of the school year is always an important event in the life of the parish, uniting students, parents and teachers in the desire to educate the younger generation in the Orthodox faith and traditions of the Russian Orthodox Church.

A moleben for the beginning of the school year is a special rite in which the worshipers ask for God's help and blessing in comprehending good and soul-beneficial teachings, for the sending down of the spirit of wisdom and reason upon the youth, and to enlighten their hearts to the successful knowledge of the useful teachings taught to them. On this day, they pray not only for the students, but also for their teachers.
