Students of the Sunday School perform a concert at the Cathedral

Sunday 2nd March 2008

On Sunday 2 March, a concert was given by the students of the Cathedral parish Sunday school. The concert was attended by Bishop Elisey, the Cathedral clergy and many parishioners. The concert included items by the junior and senior choirs and instrumental solos.

Before the concert, Bishop Elisey addressed the children, parents and parishioners, drawing their attention to the special quality of joy, sincerity and innocence which are the hallmarks of child artistic endeavour.

The first part of the concert was composed of choral works. The audience was moved by the junior choir’s repertoire and the performers’ diligent approach and overall appearance. The choir performed Russian and Czech folk songs as well as children’s songs by the composers A. Arensky, P. Boiko, E Krylatov and Yu. Tugarinov.

The senior choir displayed marked confidence and an ability to sing in harmony. The repertoire -- more complex than that of the juniors -- included Russian, Ukrainian and Norwegian folk songs.

The second part consisted of instrumental solos by the school’s best instrumentalists. The audience was particularly appreciative of the young violinists. A piano duet by the school teachers, Mr and Mrs Tugarinov came as a welcome musical surprise.

In conclusion, Bishop Elisey thanked all the performers and wished them every success for the future.
