The Parish of St Nicholas in Oxford welcomes Bishop Elisey
On the second Sunday of Great Lent, Bishop Elisey of Sourozh paid an archpastoral visit to the Russian Orthodox Parish of St Nicholas the Wonderworker in Oxford.
Bishop Elisey presided at the Divine Liturgy and was assisted by Fr Stephen Platt, the rector of the parish, Archpriest Vladimir Vorobiov, the Rector of the St Tikhon University in Moscow, as well as Deacon Dimitry Nedostupenko from the London Cathedral who was accompanying the Bishop, and the parish’s own Deacon Matthew Steenberg.
A large multinational congregation, comprising people of British, Russian and Greek descent attended the Liturgy.
Addressing the congregation after the service, Bishop Elisey thanked everyone for coming to pray together and expressed his hope that the Orthodox community in Oxford which is currently renting its worship space, would be able to acquire a suitable church building for its exclusive use soon.
