From Diocese of Sourozh
Bishop Elisey's second visit to the Orthodox Community in Bristol
On Sunday 22nd February 2009, the Sunday of remembrance of the Last Judgement, Bishop Elisey of Sourozh paid an archpastoral visit to the Russian Orthodox community of the Holy Trinity in Bristol and celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Canford cemetery chapel.
After the Divine Liturgy Vladyka congratulated the congregation with the forthcoming Great Fast and wished happy birthday to Priest John Palmer, the rector of the community. Bishop Elisey presented Father John with an icon of the Mother of God "the Sign", wishing him good health and God's help with his ministry and further development of the community. In his address to the parishioners Vladyka stated that, although the community is rather small, with the most important thing is the sense of belonging to the Orthodox Church and the opportunity to receive Holy Communion.
Father John thanked Vladyka in his response for his archpastoral care and his love for the community. The rector noted with great pleasure Vladyka Elisey's efforts in strengthening the life of the Diocese of Sourozh through visiting the various parishes. Speaking on behalf of the congregation, Father John expressed their commitment and hopes for a successful continuation of the work to develop the church life of the community.
During his visit to Bristol, Bishop Elisey was accompanied by Protodeacon Dmitry Nedostupenko and Reader Daniil Matrusov from the London Cathedral.
