From Diocese of Sourozh
2008 Diocesan Conference
23rd-26th May 2008
The annual Conference of the Diocese of Sourozh took place this year on 23rd-26th May in Reigate in Surrey. The theme of the Conference was ‘'Pray without ceasing'—(1 Thessalonians 5:17.) and it was attended by some one hundred and fifty people from different parishes in the diocese as well as guests from overseas. The speakers included university professors, clergymen and theologians. Of particular interest was a talk on the Jesus Prayer by one of the conference guests, Bishop Hillarion of Vienna and Austria who is well-known to the faithful in Britain. Other talks touched upon prayer in the Church and in the home, prayer in Patristic thought and prayer in daily life. These themes were further developed in workshops and discussion groups which took place every day. Above all, the conference participants valued the opportunity to come together in prayer and in the reception of the Holy Gifts of Christ. Divine services took place in the school Anglican chapel which had been temporarily furnished with a portable icon-screen. The Sunday Liturgy was celebrated by Bishop Elisey of Sourozh and assisted by Bishop Hillarion of Vienna and Austria.
A more detailed account of the conference will appear on the diocesan site in the near future.
