The Parish Council

The Parish Council of the London Cathedral consists of its clergy, officers and 15 elected lay members. The Council usually meets once a month to discuss and make decisions regarding the current affairs of the Cathedral Parish.

Clergy are automatically permanent members of the Council. The 3 principal officer posts of the Parish are Churchwarden, Secretary and Treasurer, each of whom is elected by the whole Parish for a 3 year term and can be re-elected when their term expires. There are in total 15 elected lay members, who are elected by the whole Parish, 5 of whom are elected each year for a 3 year term. Elected members can be re-elected when their term expires, but on the condition that they are not permitted to serve as elected members of the Council for more than 9 consecutive years.

The Council has a number of sub-committees, which help the Council in the more laborious areas of its work. One of them is the Finance Committee, which usually meets once a month just before the next upcoming Parish Council meeting to make recommendations to the Council regarding the financial affairs of the parish; the permanent members of the Committee are marked with an * below.
