« On the feast of the meeting of the Vladimir Icon of the Holy Mother of God, His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh celebrated the Liturgy in the Cathedral of London »

On September 8, 2019, 12th Sunday after Pentecost, feast of the meeting of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God (the feast was established in memory of saving Moscow from the Tamerlane invasion in 1395), His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Dormition Cathedral in the city of London.
His Grace was assisted by Secretary of the Diocese of Sourozh Priest Dimitry Nedostupenko, Protodeacon Vadim Santsevitch, Deacon Anthony Ivashin and Deacon Victor Nikiforov.
Liturgical chants were sung by the choir of the Cathedral under the direction of M.V. Bezmenova.
At the augmented litany, petitions were raised for the unity of the Orthodox Church and the preservation of the Church from divisions and schisms.
Following the augmented litany, His Grace Vladyka recited a prayer for peace in Ukraine.
At the end of the Liturgy, the Archpastor and the co-serving clergy sung glorification to the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God, after which Vladyka Matthew addressed the congregation with words of preaching and spiritual edification.
For hard work for the benefit of the Church of Christ, and on her name day, N.A. Purishko, Head of the Chancellery of the Diocese of Sourozh, was awarded the Patriarchal medal "In memory of the 100th anniversary of the restoration of the Patriarchate in the Russian Orthodox Church."
Vladyka Matthew warmly congratulated those celebrating their name day with the feast of their heavenly patroness; employees of the Cathedral celebrating their name day were presented with bouquets of flowers.
